SAVING MORE THAN 1.4 TRILLION GALLONS OF SHOWER WATER WASTE ANNUALLY IN THE UNITED STATES ALONE

Our Story
More than a quarter of the world’s population, about 2.1 billion people, lack access to clean water, according to the World Health Organization. However, in most first world countries, daily hot showers have become the standard. While waiting for the shower water to heat up, the average single-family household in the United States wastes over 12,000 gallons of water annually. Numerically speaking, the United States has 128.58 million households with an average of 2.52 people per household respectively. This means that approximately 1.5 trillion gallons of water is wasted while waiting for the shower to heat up annually in the U.S. alone. Sometimes, wasted water is driven down sewage lines, where it is recycled into freshwater for reuse. However, this process is costly, making it a nonviable option for many cities and communities around the world. Due to the excessive waste of clean water, the availability of drinking and usable water decreases worldwide. Additionally, low water levels contribute to high concentrations of natural or human pollutants, which oftentimes lead to disease, especially in developing nations. Most importantly, the depletion of the already scarce quantity of freshwater on a large scale tremendously limits the amount of available drinking water in countries where the population experiences water scarcity. Similarly, depleting reservoirs and ground-based water sources put water supplies, human health, the environment and populations around the globe at serious risk. At HydroSave, it is our mission to promote freshwater conservation and educate others about environmentally harmful water waste in order to pursue global natural resource sustainability.
